CONTEST! Banshees and Vamps and Scotsmen, Oh My! "One Dance with A Vampire" by Cornelia Amiri

Cornelia Amiri has a secret...

The vampires in my Dancing Vampire series with Ellora’s Cave, really aren’t vampires at all. Dancing Vampires is another name for the baobhan sith (bah von shee). They are vampiric fey from the Scottish highlands. If you like vampires you’ll love the series but it’s also for those who like dark fey or hot Scottish highlanders.

The baobhan sith roam the highlands in packs and all of them are women, no men. Voluptuous and enticing, these beauties always wear green gowns. Also, they have talons. No fangs. Like other vampires, they drink human blood and fry in the sunlight.

For a modern take on the baobhan sith, visit these dark fey in the Dancing Vampire series: Dance Of The Vampires, Vampire Highland Fling, Ever So Bonnie A Vampire, and One Dance With
A Vampire--just released August 22.

One Dance With A Vampire - Fourth in the Dancing Vampires series.

Sexy Scot Angus is consumed with dreams of the fiery vampiric fey Tearlag. Their dancing steps came to a halt a year ago when they almost killed each other. Angus comes upon the alluring woman again and despite the danger, he has to have one dance with her. Angus’ muscular arms clasp Tearlag tightly as they dance across a field of heather. An insatiable hunger rises in her and it isn’t for his blood.

From different worlds, fey and human, her sisters and his brothers threaten at every turn to keep them apart.

Excerpt: When her gaze met his, the gleam returned to her eyes and the rosy tint to her cheeks. Warmth lit in him and ignited a flame, burning all his fears, regrets, and sadness away. An intense need flared through him. Pressure coiled in his groin. He leaned closer and brushed his lips against hers. His mouth tingled as he kissed her smooth, warm lips. He twisted his mouth over hers, his lips dancing with hers. His neck muscles stretched as a hot, relaxing energy flowed through him.

Tearlag tilted her neck back. “My sisters warned me about the kiss of a mortal.” She licked her red lips. “Now I know why.”

“Again.” He tilted his head toward her.

“No.” Tearlag pulled back. “I think not.” She shook her head. “I have to go.”

Angus watched her hips jiggle and her red hair sway against her back as she strolled across the road and waded through the long grass in the field.

He followed her.

When Tearlag reached the pile of ancient stones, he grabbed her hand from behind and twirled her around, pulling her to him.

“Before you go, give me one dance.”

She held up a single finger. “One dance.”

He clung to her sultry skin. Her subtle, sweet scent, floral and smoky, danced in the evening air. Her breasts rubbed against his chest and his breath caught in his throat. His erection swelled and his balls grew tight with tension. Her hips jolted his lower body as they moved in a slow, sensual dance to their own music of want and desire. Tilting his head to her neck, he darted his tongue out and licked her creamy flesh. When he planted kisses on her neck, she shivered. Angus pulled her tighter to him.

Sliding his mouth from her neck to her hot lips, he massaged them with tugs and twists. As he prodded her lips with the tip of his tongue, she opened her mouth. He thrust his tongue within and tangled it with hers. When she pulled out of the kiss, he left her face flushed. The salty taste of her skin lingered on his tingling tongue.

Her breasts heaved as she rasped, “Leave a rock loose for tonight.”

Her soft, breathy tone sent a hot tremor through him. Her reddened lips, still wet and swollen from the kiss, turned up at the corners into a sensuous smile, promising more to come.

“I’ll be here at sunset. Waiting.” Ecstatic with hope, he couldn’t breathe. She wanted to see him again.

Tearlag stepped on the cairn, portal to the fey realm, and vanished before his eyes.

“Tomorrow night.” His voice sounded hoarse, even to his own ears. He swallowed hard as he stared at the air above the cairn where Tearlag had stood, and wondered if he’d ever see her again.

Ashley Ladd asks: Business or Pleasure?

Can opposites attract?

Guy Rogers is extremely attracted to his new realtor, Tom Beaudreaux. As a passionate vegetarian and animal activist, he’s ecstatic that Tom is a kindred soul. He could never be with a carnivore. Unfortunately, Tommy isn’t really a vegetarian or animal activist. He never said he was either, he just didn’t eat meat when he was with Guy. And maybe he emptied his house of all meat and dairy products before inviting Guy over. In fact, Tommy’s family owns the most popular barbecue restaurant in town and if his family has their way, he’ll manage the new location.

When Guy finds out that Tommy eats meat and his family owns a restaurant that is a monument to eating meat, he’s livid and doesn’t know if he wants anything else to do with Tommy.

But then Guy’s life gets crazy –his dad’s paranoia blossoms into violent dementia, he gets arrested for picketing a doggy mill, and then he winds up in even more legal trouble. When Tommy sticks by him through all his trouble and does everything he can to help him, Guy wonders if he’s been too militant and narrow-minded. Perhaps he can learn to live with people who have opposite views.

Excerpt:

Gunshots rang out as they turned onto Guy’s street.

Tommy looked at him and mouthed, “Shit! You don’t think…?”

“I hope not. I don’t know.” Guy pressed the gas pedal to the floor and the car shot forward, fish-tailing.

Tommy fisted the door, hanging on tight. “I hope we’re wrong.”

Guy’s intuition told him he wasn’t. His knuckles turned white they held the steering wheel so tightly. Unafraid for himself but scared for his dad, he pulled into his driveway and jumped out of the car, with Tommy close on his heels.

The woman next door ran outside screaming, tearing out her already tattered hair. She pointed at her front door. “Your father’s shooting up my house and is holding a gun at my dad’s head. He’s going to kill him. You’ve got to do something.”

Tommy yelled as he began dialing on his phone, “I’m calling the police.” As if on cue, police sirens blared in the distance and grew louder by the second.

“I’m going in. I have to stop him.”

“Wait for the police. Don’t put yourself in danger,” Tommy ordered forcefully.

“I have to take the chance. He could kill someone before the police get here. I can’t let that happen.” He put himself in harm’s way for animals, so certainly he could risk his life for his own father and other fellow human beings. He had no choice. It would be his fault if someone got hurt.

So he ran through the open door flailing his arms, hoping he would be in time. “Dad! It’s Guy. Don’t do anything. I’m here. You’ll be okay.”

“He’ll be okay? What about me? He’s got a shotgun pointed at my head threatening to blow it off,” the elderly neighbor cried.

And They Lived Happily Ever After... what happened to the H&H of Temptation in Tartan? (#MySexySaturday @MFRW_ORG @Scottishromance #outlander)

The lovely folk hosting the weekly blog hop, My Sexy Saturday, have provided an interesting assignment today--what happens after THE END?

In the case of a series, favorite characters can reappear to show us that they indeed enjoyed the happily ever after life promised in a prior book.

And so it is with Lydia and Kieran of Temptation in Tartan. Here's the blurb:

She had to marry a monster…

Rumors had followed the chieftains of Clan Kilborn for centuries. Said to be descended from the Viking Berserkers, they were ferocious in battle, known for tearing off the heads of their enemies and drinking their blood.

But English noblewoman Lydia Swann Williston would marry Kieran, Laird Kilborn, to bring peace to the Kilborn lands after the horror of Culloden and the brutal pacification. A widow, she also brought needed wealth to Clan Kilborn. For her part, eighteen-year-old Lydia wanted children. With her husband killed at Culloden, she would make a new life in the Highlands.

The old chieftain of Clan Kilborn also died in battle, and she hoped that the new young Laird would lack his ancestors' ferocity.

She was wrong.

****

And you may remember that they appeared prominently in the sequel, Desire in Tartan.

Here’s a little snippet to show that they maintained their loving, sexy relationship even though they’d had four children:

On Hogmanay morn, Alice stood in the hall and received a bundle of blankets
cocooning the slumbering Marian, destined to sleep in her light wooden cradle placed in the nursery. Then Lydia closed the bedroom door and firmly locked it. She turned to Kieran with a smile, shedding her dressing gown as she scurried on bare feet back to bed.

He reached for her bouncing breasts and latched onto the nearest one,
suckling deeply. She wrapped her hands around his head and buried her fingers in his hair, scratching his scalp with gentle fingertips.

“Ummm.” Still sucking her nipple, he grabbed her around the waist and hauled her down onto their bed, where he happily buried his head between her breasts. She was still nursing Marian, and they were large, firm globes, absolutely perfect. She tasted sweeter than usual, too.

He raised his head. Lydia lay back on the pillows, smiling. She lifted her arms and grasped the headboard. Stretching, she arched her back and lifted her breasts even higher. He took the unspoken hint and rose, strolling to her dresser. Taking a strip of the worn linen that the clan used as towels, he turned and put on a stern expression.

She gave a slight gasp.

“Aye,” he said. Returning, he laced the cloth through the headboard’s slats and around her wrists, pinning them securely above her head. “Yer mine, now. All mine. Mine to use as I will.” He tweaked her nipple, then gave it a pinch.

This time her gasp was real.

Vote for Meeeee.......Really? (#SexSceneChampionships #MFRWAuthor @MFRW_ORG #BDSM)

Every once in a while I come across one of those competitions between authors--you know, when an enterprising blogger or reviewer or even a sales page wants to rev up interest in their site, and so pits one author against another in some sort of competition. Thus far, I've participated in only one, and I thought it was fairly judged by readers--I was matched against a very well known author competing for the "Smooch" Award, which was given by the cataromance website. I won, which surprised me--like I said, my competitor was very well known, and at that time, I was a relative newbie. I had assumed that it was more like a
popularity contest than an actual contest judged on the merits.

But these so-called competitions have become more popular, and it's next to impossible to read yahoogroup
postings for any length of time without coming across a plea like the one in my blog title: Vote for Meeeeee........!!!!!

Those pleas are awful. They're unattractive in a way I can't define. Perhaps it's the immodesty--my British mother raised me to be a lady as they were defined about a century ago. Or more. And begging has never been my strong suit. In Winter's Bone, Jennifer Lawrence's character tells her little brother, "Don't ever ask for what ought to be offered." I agree with that--especially as it applies to the opposite sex--but it feels right to me in this situation, as well.

I signed on for the Sex Scene Championship because, well, I'm proud of my work, and also I figured it would be good promo. As many of you know if you've read my blogs and FB posts for a while, marketing is not exactly my forte.  Okay, I suck at it. So I'm experimenting by trying different venues to spread the word.

For me, this is the year of Twitter and Triberr, and so far I've been happy with the increased sales. I've also been reaching out to other writers, blogging with them and inviting them to share guest posts on my blog site. The symbiosis created by blog+Triberr+Twitter is very powerful--I have a reach of about two million. I don't delude myself that most of those two million read my books or will in the future--but it's a big improvement compared to my prior marketing efforts.

And soooo...the sex scene championships. I reached out to my competitor hoping we could evolve some kind of joint promo, but she never responded. I did the same with a couple other authors who were participating, but no one could come up with anything new, cute or inventive. And given my crippling lack of imagination when it comes to author marketing, I certainly haven't come up with anything brilliant.

So this is it. Blog+Triberr+Twitter.

Wish me luck.

The excerpt can be found at the Sex Scene Championship page:

It's that really sexy BDSM scene from Rakes in Tartan in which Andrew practically rapes Dagmar. But as readers of this book know, Dagmar never does anything she doesn't want, and her desires are, umm... shall we say...arcane.

So: VOTE FOR MEEEEEE on August 22. Or for the other author, should you prefer her writing.

And if you enjoy the scene from Rakes, get it here:

And if you would, please post a comment about these contests and/or about the campaigning for votes. I'm really interested in people's opinions...am I out of step?  Or have I identified something that's maybe a little destructive?

Since I entered the romance community I've noticed a strong tendency away from competition and toward cooperation. Maybe it's because this genre is dominated by women, and we tend to work together toward common goals rather than competitively. The thought is that "a rising tide floats all boats." As the popularity of romance and erotica rises, we all benefit. Sure, there's competition for the scarce reader dollar, but in the main, we know that romance fans are voracious readers. Turning on a reader to romance and erotica generally benefits many if not all of us--our beloved readers don't buy one book from one authors, but tend to buy many books from many authors.

So why the competitions? Are they useful or divisive?

Be Seduced by the Night...The Seduction of Night by Erin Simone AND THERE'S SWAG!!!

 Immortal Embrace, Book Three

Ta’breyian Wolffe is no stranger to loss. He’s on intimate terms with the pain and rage caused by losing his wife to the Rogue vampires he’s made it his mission to destroy. He keeps his emotions in check, the guilt over his part in his beloved’s death a cloak he wears always. Dangerous and lethally efficient when slaying his enemies, Ta’breyian has lived with his grief for more than a thousand years, ever alone.

Until a raven-haired beauty awakens his carnal side at long last.
Reporter Serena Miller’s determination to chase the story of mysterious deaths in New York City sends her plummeting into Ta’breyian’s violent world. The gorgeous woman tempts him like no other. She offers her body, but her love is off limits as long as Ta’breyian’s heart still belongs to a woman long dead. The time has come. He’ll have to confront his past—especially when it threatens to destoy his and Serena’s future.

Excerpt:

“You didn’t even say goodbye. I don’t like having my emotions toyed with. Leaving like that was a really shitty thing to do.”

“I’m sorry.” He traced forward, seizing her around the waist.

“Y-you should be. Now would you please let go?” She tried to keep her voice even and failed. The warmth of his body caused a shiver to move through her. It felt like heaven being in his arms again. His heat coursed down the length of her, making the ache between her legs suddenly grow more intense.

Ta’breyian leaned forward, drawing a deep breath. “Mm…”

“What are you doing?” she gasped.

The next thing she knew, she was flat on her back, pinned to the couch beneath his massive frame.

“Instincts are a bitch—and I’m tired of fighting mine.”

“You’re such a contradictory ass, you know that?” His nearness had her mind in a tailspin.

“When it comes to you, you’re absolutely correct.”

He stared down at her with those penetrating eyes that melted her resolve to remain angry.
God, her feelings for him had nothing to do with reason either.

“Explain what you mean by your instincts.” She wanted to understand.

“My carnal side believes you belong to me and wants to possess you, mark you,” he tilted his head with a naughty grin, “and fuck you. It’s that simple.” His eyes boldly raked over her.

Werewolves deal with a "Pack of Lies"~~Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985 #erotica #romance #werewolves)

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and are happy to keep their secret. But their privacy comes at a cost—neither brother has taken a lover in almost four hundred years.

Then at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be an animal. A large, vicious animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts. Meanwhile Isaac is smitten by a handsome newcomer to the village, while a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.
As they indulge their lust, they must clear their names and convince their neighbours that they aren’t also letting their baser instincts out to play.

Inside Scoop:  This book contains sizzling scenes of both M/M and M/F sex.

*****

Excerpt:

As Matthew and Isaac Adams opened the front door to their house, the telephone started ringing. Matthew sighed. “Typical. No rest for the wicked. I’ll answer it, you go and get ready for work.”

Isaac nodded and headed off to do as his brother advised. Matthew, the older of the two, walked toward the ringing phone and snatched it off the hook. Then, remembering that the person on the other end of the line would have no idea what a rough night he’d just had, he made the effort to inject some politeness into his tone.

“Hello? Adams residence.” Isaac had told him time and time again that the last part about the residence was old-fashioned, that people didn’t say that anymore, but Matthew couldn’t seem to shake it.

“Hello, Matthew? It’s Richard.” The village vicar’s voice, even though he’d only spoken four words, sounded strained, almost panicked. “You boys just get back?”

“Yeah, a moment ago. Why, what’s up?”

“I, uh… I got a call. A dead sheep has been found up on the moor. Not just dead. Mutilated. Like a wild animal attack.”

An unpleasant feeling wormed its way under Matthew’s skin and his stomach flipped. “Oh?” He paused, then figured he had nothing to gain by not saying the next words he wanted to. “You don’t think it was us?”

The vicar’s gasp was instant, one of genuine surprise. “Lord, no! Absolutely not. I just phoned to let you know and I was wondering if you’d come up there with me and take a look. You and Isaac are probably more qualified than anyone else in the village to tell what did this.”

“Isaac has to work, he just went to get ready. But yes, I’ll come up. I’ll let my brother know where I’m
going, then I’ll be straight over. Are you at the rectory?”

“Yes. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Thanks, Matthew. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Matthew hung up the phone with another sigh. The horrible feeling that had crept under his skin and taken over his gut seemed as if it was there to stay, and it was never a good sign. The vicar’s news was surprising, yes, but he also had an inkling that it was going to spell trouble, or at the very least inconvenience, for him and his brother.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his jangling nerves, Matthew walked upstairs and toward his brother’s bedroom. The door was closed. He knocked. “You decent?”

“Yeah,” Isaac replied, “close enough.”

Stepping into the room, Matthew looked at his brother. He was half-dressed, ready for his shift at the doctor’s surgery, where he was a general practitioner. “Sorry to interrupt, mate, but that was Richard on the phone. They’ve found a mutilated sheep up on the moor, and he’s asked me to go with him to check it out.”

Isaac paused with one arm pushed into his shirtsleeve. “He doesn’t think—”

Matthew cut him off. “No. He was quite adamant about that. He just thought we’d be able to help figure out what did it. I explained that you’ve got to go to work, though. I’m going to head across there now and go up with him.”

“I could phone in, let them know I’ll be late.”

Matthew held up his hand. “There’s no need, brother. Relax. Just go to work and help the sick people. I’ll let you know what—if anything—I find out.”

Opening his mouth, then closing it again, Isaac seemed to have thought better of whatever he was going to say. He continued to dress. “All right, I will. But make sure you let me know what happens. Send me a text or something, and I’ll phone you as soon as I have a gap in between patients.”

Matthew grimaced. He hated texting. Hated mobile phones, actually. Technology was one of the things he disliked most about modern-day life, though he realized it was a necessary evil. It solved as many problems for him and his brother as it created, so he dealt with it as best he could. Fortunately, Isaac had always had an affinity with computers and phones, so he tutored his older brother.

“Yeah, all right. I’d better go and find my phone first then, eh?”

Smirking at his brother’s rolled eyes, he left the room and headed for his own bedroom, where he thought he’d left the device the previous night, before he and Isaac had headed for the caves. Immediately spotting the mobile phone—which Isaac often made a point of telling him was akin to a brick—he grabbed it and stuffed it into his pocket and made his way downstairs.

Retrieving his keys from the hook by the front door, he called up to his brother. “I’m going now, Isaac. I’ll see you after my shift at the pub. I’m working until closing time.”

“Okay. Don’t forget to keep me posted!”

“I won’t.” As if he could forget. The dead sheep was going to be a big thing, he just knew it. The vicar might not think he and his brother had anything to do with it, but some of the other villagers might. When there was no proof either way, just his and Isaac’s word, it was understandable, really. Since he and his brother changed into wolves every full moon, it was a natural conclusion to draw. Particularly since normal wolves had been extinct in England for over five hundred years.

Sherlock's Hottest Night ~Suz deMello (@MFRW_ORG, #MFRWAuthor, #Sherlock #spanking)

I'm delighted to participate in an excellent blog hop with fabulous prizes. Not only will each author give something away, but the overall hop has four great gifts:

~A Kindle Fire donated by Blushing Books
~ A $100 gift card to either Amazon or B&N
~ A $50 GC
~A $25 GC

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment at any author's blog to get one of the overall prizes, but to get a free ebook from me, you have to answer the following question:

What is the English vice?

Where's the answer, you ask? Somewhere on this blog (duh).

So if you ever wondered about British kink, read on!

We banged against each other hard, wildly, with no rhythm, but frantically, mindless animals seeking completion. My breath came in grunts and pants, and Sherlock’s chest heaved against me as I jerked and bucked. We slid against each other, slippery with sweat before he grabbed my wrists and pinned them high against the headboard. He began to ride me in earnest, with a steadiness that drew me into his rhythm. When we were moving in tandem he released my wrists and dropped his head to kiss my mouth, thrusting his tongue inside when his rod reached deep.
He reached for my legs, drawing them high and setting my ankles on his shoulders before slapping my ass-cheek in cadence with his thrusts. I tore my lips away from his and gasped, “Sherlock!”
He laughed. “I’m not hurting you, am I?”
“No, but—“
“But what?” He pulled out of me and flipped me over onto my belly, spanking me again on my available bum.
“But…” I knew that the English had a predilection for spanking their women. In fact,
caning was known as the English vice, but I had never before encountered it, and I was not sure I wanted to.
I squirmed away, and he pursued, shoving a pillow beneath my hips and pinning me down with one strong arm over my low back. He caressed my buttocks, focusing on the spots he’d already slapped.
I loved his touch. I stopped squirming.
“How do you feel?” His voice was low and intimate.
“Uh, uh, I, uh…”
“I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
“It did sting a little.”
“But it’s all right now, isn’t it?” His fingertips stroked my sensitized skin.
“Y-yes.”
He palmed my bottom, then spanked me again. I sucked in a breath, close to tears. I wasn’t about to cry from the pain, which was slight, but the experience was so unsettling… I felt that I was on some sort of border. I could step over into an unknown country, or stay within what was comfortable. I knew that Sherlock would stop if I asked, but did I want to ask?

A lot more happened during Sherlock's hottest, sexiest night, but you'll have to read the story to find out!
